Easy date night ideas for busy parents

Romantic date nights tend to take a back seat once you have little ones, but it is essential that you make the effort to have these special nights whenever possible. Intimate meals at a swanky restaurant and drinks in town are not ideal for busy parents, but fortunately, there are a few easy date night ideas that will help you to connect and enjoy one another’s company.

Garden Dining
There are few things more enjoyable than relaxing in your own backyard during the summer. Take advantage of this by cooking your partner a meal and then enjoying this in the privacy of your garden (with a few glasses of wine, of course). You could send the kids off to a friend’s house, hire a babysitter or simply keep them entertained with a DVD whilst you relax outside. This has become a favourite of mine and Matt's when the kids are off staying with their grandparents!

Boxset/Movie Night
Hitting the town for a big night is not quite as appealing when you are a busy parent. Instead, try settling in for a romantic night in with a boxset, a few films and a takeaway. Right now, boxset marathons are a firm favourite as there are so many fantastic series to binge on. These include Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, The Wire, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards and Mad Men.

Double Date Dinner Party
Double dates can be great fun and interacting with other couples is healthy for any relationship. If you are friends with the parents or your children’s friends, consider inviting them round for a double date dinner party. The kids can all keep themselves entertained whilst you all enjoy a pleasant evening in with some stimulating conversation and good food.

Go for a Walk
Date nights should be all about spending quality time with your significant other. This does not have to involve an expensive meal, cocktails or a movie - you can simply get out the house and enjoy one another’s company. Take a leisurely stroll somewhere picturesque during the day (bonus points if you have a dog) and enjoy the peace and quiet that this comes with.

Board Games & Wine
Once the little ones are tucked up in bed it is the perfect time to spend quality time together. Stay up late with a bottle of wine and a few board games or card games and it is sure to be a memorable evening with your partner.

Date nights may be trickier once you have kids to take care of, but they should definitely not be overlooked! If you’re anything like me, you’ve certainly earned them!
