Collectible toys were the only thing you ever wanted to spend your pocket money on when I was around 10 years old. My first ever collectible obsession was Puppy in My Pocket. I remember when they first hit the shops, they cost just 50p each! The puppies were in a blind bag so you couldn't see which you were getting, but that was the fun of it! I ended up with so many of the same puppies but my friend collected them too, so we often swapped our puppies.
I'll never forget taking my huge puppy collection to my nan's house, she was amazed that i remembered all of their names without needing to look on their info cards!
My favourite was Jamie the westie, and my least favourite was Sally the Jack Russel, probably because i had about 6 repeats of her!
Shortly after the Puppy in my Pocket craze, came the next one... Kitty in my Pocket! Of course!! I wasn't too bothered about them but i did collect a few because i was bored of getting the same puppies over and over again. After the Kitty's came Pony in my Pocket. I had 1 or 2 of those but the Puppies were the best!
Now i'm a Mummy of 3 and i still have my Puppy collection at my mums house. My children have played with them and all the children that my mum has looked after over the years have played with them. I'd say i definitely got my moneys worth!!
I'm glad that Puppy in my Pocket is still around today for other children to purchase with their pocket money (although they would need a little more than 50p!) todays Puppy in my Pocket are slightly larger and they have a fluffy effect unlike the old school puppies!
There are so many collectibles on the market today, i wouldn't even know where to start. They come and go before the children have even had a chance to collect them so you have to be quick!
Genie Girls is one of the newer collections, Lottie would love these and i'm sure she will be asking for some for her birthday in March! I like the idea of being able to see what you're getting but having 1 surprise! I kind of wish this would have been thought of back in the Puppy in my Pocket days!
