When you move into a new house, it’s tradition to receive a guest from your friends, families and neighbours. For neighbours, it’s a chance to introduce yourself to whoever has moved in next door. You want to get this new relationship in your life off to a good start. Even if you’d rather keep yourself to yourself, you certainly don’t want the new neighbours to think you are rude. The question is what to get. This might seem like quite a simple decision. What does it matter what gift you get? As long as you get them something, it’s fine right? Ah, but what if other people get them gifts that mean a little more and you just settle on a bar of chocolate. With that in mind, here are some of my favourite gift ideas for the new homeowner.
A Picture Frame
If you’ve ever moved into a new home, you’ll know that at first you can’t help but feel that the home looks a little bare. You will do your best to put your mark on it but that takes some time. That’s why I think one of the best gifts for a new home owner is a picture frame. The problem is deciding what picture to get in it. You could give them a large empty frame, but that’s just half a gift. If in doubt get a classic print such as Picasso and they are sure to find a place for it in their home.
A Bottle Of Champagne
If you don’t know the person moving because you are the next door neighbour, I wouldn’t recommend buying the gift of food or drink. But champagne is the exception. Even people who claim to be teetotal often have a sip of champagne to celebrate a special occasion. This fits the bill perfectly and it’s a charming gift to bring over to a new homeowner. You also get the added benefit that they might open it while you’re there. It’s the perfect start to a new friendship.
Are you looking for a housewarming gift that means a little more? You could always but the homeowner a personal ornament like the ones made by Willow Tree. These gorgeous carvings come with different meanings attached. So, if you are getting one for someone moving into a new home you could get the ornament for a beautiful wishes. If there is a better way to let them know you wish them happy times living there, I’m sure I don’t know it. This is also a gift that they will treasure and remember, unlike a bouquet of flowers.
I know I just disparaged the idea of giving a plant, but what I have in mind is a little bigger than a bouquet. For instance, you could buy them a plant for their garden, that will grow into something a lot bigger. Or if you want to make a long lasting gesture why not give them a small tree in a pot. In years to come it will have grown tall and strong, echoing the traits of your new friendship.
These are just some of my ideas. Check back soon for some more great choices for little presents.
